Tambadou Abdoulaye Mauritania Navy

Missing Since 19 Nov 1990

Brief info

Lieutenant Abdoulaye Tambadou, born in 1950 in Bababé, was a distinguished officer in the Mauritanian navy, a devoted husband, and a father of four. On November 19, 1990, he was arrested at the Nouadhibou naval base under unclear circumstances. He was subsequently transferred to the Inal barracks, where he endured severe torture before being summarily executed on December 6, 1990. His death, reportedly involving the direct involvement of Ould Maguett, exemplifies the extreme brutality of the regime’s actions during this dark period in Mauritania’s history.

Lieutenant Tambadou’s remains were never returned to his family, nor were they provided with an official account of his death or burial. The uncertainty surrounding his fate continues to cause profound pain to his loved ones, who have steadfastly demanded truth and accountability. Lieutenant Tambadou’s case underscores the urgent need for justice, the preservation of human rights, and the recognition of the suffering endured by victims and their families.
