Mamadou Guisset Mauritania Army

Missing since 05 Dec 1990

Brief info

Adjutant Mamadou Guisset, a dedicated weapons specialist from Bababé, was arrested on December 5, 1990—the very day his daughter was born—and taken to Jreida Camp, where he suffered severe abuse before being executed on December 13. He had only a brief moment to see his newborn child. His untimely death exemplifies the brutality of an ethnic repression campaign carried out under the regime of Maaouya Ould Sid’Ahmed Taya, targeting Black soldiers without mercy.

This campaign was notably led by Lieutenant Ould Maguett, who oversaw the mass arrests and summary executions of Black military personnel. Under his watch, Jreida Camp became a death site, with victims buried in anonymous mass graves. No judicial or truth-seeking process ever took place, leaving Guisset’s family and many others with no path to justice.
